Apprenticeships and traineeships
Apprenticeships and traineeships combine structured training (e.g. through TAFE or another Registered Training Organisation) with practical experience working for an employer. You are paid for your work and when you complete your training you receive a nationally accredited qualification.
The term ‘apprenticeship’ is used for skilled trade areas such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, cabinet-making, automotive, etc. ‘Traineeship’ is used for vocational areas such as office administration, information technology, tourism, hospitality, beauty therapy, etc.
Apprenticeships and traineeships can be full-time, part-time or school-based. A school-based apprenticeship or traineeship allows you to start your training while you are still at school. It will contribute credit towards your Queensland Certificate of Education.
