St Stephen’s Chess Team 1 (as pictured, left to right – Aaron Bryce, Hunter Liebold, Thomas Gargan and Caleb Shorey) finished third in the final round of the FNQ Interschool Chess competition. The team finished on twenty (20) points, half a point behind the second placed team St Mary’s Catholic College and two (2) and a half points behind the eventual winners St Augustine’s College. St Stephen’s narrowly missed out on making it to the State Finals in Brisbane next term to defend our Queensland Regional Title. In the individual standings, Hunter Liebold won Board 2 with a perfect seven wins from seven games. Jack Burnside also won a merit ribbon for his five wins in the Open division.
