Welcome to St Stephen’s Catholic College

St Stephenโ€™s Catholic College is a co-educational secondary school located in Mareeba, approximately 60 km west of Cairns. Founded in 2006 on 28 hectares and administered by the Catholic Diocese of Cairns, our college provides a quality secondary education for students from the surrounding Tablelands and Mossman areas.

Our vision is that St Stephenโ€™s Catholic College will be a safe and nurturing learning community where students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning, to build successful relationships, to have an awareness of Godโ€™s presence and to strive to achieve their personal best.

Our college enjoys an excellent reputation in academic rigour and performance, while also providing support for students from varied ability levels. The Australian curriculum informs teaching and learning in years 7 to 10, with the senior schooling curriculum structured to meet the needs of students who are following an academic or vocational pathway. Modern facilities and a strong emphasis on technology combine to enhance the learning experiences of our students.

Our pastoral care program is designed to develop the whole person โ€” emotionally, spiritually, socially and physically. We seek to form young people who are confident, have respect for themselves and others and are morally autonomous.

This year, eight Year 10 students were successful in applying for the TAFE Queensland Trade Taster program. The program gives Year 10 students an opportunity to sample a variety of trades over an 8-week period, attending Cairns TAFE college one day per week. Held in Term 2, students were exposed to carpentry, plumbing, engineering and electrical trade skills. While some were reluctant to appear in front of the camera, all students responded positively about their experiences so far. Marshall, Seth, Riley, Thomas, David, Jackson, Laith and Braith are pictured below. ... See MoreSee Less

Congratulations to Year 8 student Matt Rantucci who participated in the Peninsula School Sport Squash Championships at Rockhampton last week. The competition was Matt's first experience at this level in the sport, and it was a fantastic opportunity for him to extend his skills in a very positive and supportive environment. Matt won a few of his games and also enjoyed the opportunity to play some doubles games. Congratulations Matt for representing St Stephen's with courage and determination. We wish you well with your future endeavours in the sport ๐Ÿคฉ ... See MoreSee Less

We celebrate NAIDOC Week at St Stephen's this week, with many activities and events scheduled for students, staff and invited guests! We started today with a flag-raising ceremony, through which we reflected on the significance and meaning of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags. The flags were raised alongside the Australian and Queensland flags, by our College Captains and First Nations students. Our guests then enjoyed a delicious morning tea created by our wonderful tuckshop staff. The morning tea featured treats including kangaroo sausage rolls, quandong cake, and lemon myrtle cheesecake with finger lime. Thank you to the many guests who attended the ceremony today, it was wonderful to welcome you to our College! We look forward to a fantastic week as we reflect on this year's NAIDOC Week theme 'For Our Elders'. ... See MoreSee Less

  • We are honoured to be here today as we gather on the traditional land of the Muluridji people. We acknowledge and pay our respects to the elders and their families: past, present and emerging. Unique from our own Country, yet unified. With traditions that have been passed down through generations, we bring our own values, knowledge and beliefs of land and people. Together, on this land of the Muluridji people, we come to a place where we have the privilege of learning with each other and from each other to grow together to unite our people.
