Today, the St Stephen’s community gathered to commemorate the 104th anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli. This year, our guest speaker was Ms Kate Banville (Lance Corporal, Royal Australian Army Ordnance Corps, ret’d). Ms Banville grew up in Mareeba and upon completion of year 12, she enlisted in the Australian Army as a reservist where her ambition was to be a journalist in the army. Kate was promoted to Lance Corporal, having achieved the Instructor’s Choice Award for her cohort in 2014. She was medically discharged from the Australian Army and pursued a career in journalism, reporting for the Invictus Media Team at the Sydney games. She has since relocated to Townsville and reports for the Townsville Bulletin.
